𝘑𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘮, 𝘗𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦 | 𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘺 17, 2026 On 24 March 2016, after Abdel Fattah al-Sharif stabbed an Israeli soldier, Israeli troops shot and incapacitated him in occupied Hebron. Eleven minutes later, Israeli army medic Elor Azaria walked over and fired into his head. B’Tselem published the footage recorded by a Palestinian volunteer. An Israeli military court convicted Azaria of manslaughter and sentenced him to 18 months. Army chief Gadi Eisenkot reduced the term to 14 months. A military parole board released Azaria after 9 months. On 14 July 2026, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz formally backed Azaria’s request for President Isaac Herzog to erase his criminal record before Israeli law clears it in 2032. The Israeli military opposed the request, citing Azaria’s refusal to express remorse. The U.S. declared Azaria and his immediate family generally ineligible for entry in 2024 over his involvement in a gross human-rights violation. I regard Katz’s intervention as an official act of protection for an Israeli convicted of killing an incapacitated Palestinian. The genocidal Israeli government is using ministerial authority to shield one of its killers. Palestinian national liberation requires accountability for Azaria, the genocidal Israeli army, its commanders and the politicians who protect them. What does Israeli accountability mean when its defense minister asks the president to erase this record? 🇵🇸 #AbdelFattahAlSharif #Palestine #Hebron #IsraeliImpunity
