AIPAC announced it would stop endorsing candidates and giving to them directly, but its super PAC, the United Democracy Project, spent in 333 of the 473 congressional races this year, raising its independent spending to $66.7 million from $41.4 million last cycle. Much of the money went through groups that did not carry AIPAC's name, and in some races the public learned of its role only after the vote.
