Columbia University paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to pro-Israel organizations while cracking down on pro-Palestine activism on campus, according to an investigation by The Intercept based on the university’s financial filings. During the fiscal year ending June 2024, Columbia paid $100,000 to the Israel on Campus Coalition, $75,000 to AIPAC’s charitable arm, and $450,000 to the United Jewish Appeal Federation of New York. Over the past decade, Columbia paid more than $250,000 to AIPAC’s charitable arm. No comparable payments to Palestinian, Arab, or Muslim organizations appeared in the filings reviewed by The Intercept. The payments came as Columbia suspended Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace, dismantled Gaza solidarity encampments, and brought police onto campus to arrest protesters.
