Unions representing workers at 40 ports across Europe and the Mediterranean have called for an International Day of Strikes and Protests Against War and Genocide on Oct. 30 under the slogan "Against War and Militarism," pledging coordinated action to block the transport of military cargo. The call was issued by dockworkers' unions in France, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Morocco, and the Basque Country, which are demanding an end to the genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza and the US-Israeli wars of aggression in the Middle East and against Iran. The escalation was agreed upon during a meeting of port workers' unions held in Istanbul in May, where participants declared that "ports must not be used for the transport of arms, ammunition, military equipment, or troops destined for war zones."
